One misconception Christians often have is that the God of the Universe – the One who sits on the throne – doesn’t have a specific purpose for little ole’ me. I mean, He’s pretty busy governing and He has His best people doing His work on this earth. I couldn’t possibly be called to something. Nothing couldn’t be further from the truth and our key verse speaks of this. One pastor said that the two most significant days for each of us are the day we were born and the day we find out what we were born for. That’s right… you are not an accident. God put you here for a purpose and for a time such as this.

Throughout the Bible, we see this played out. Gideon, the weakest of his clan, was called the deliver the people of Israel from the hands of the Midianites. Joshua was called to step in the shoes of Moses and lead the people into their promised land. Jonah was called to go to Ninevah and tell the people to repent. Priscilla and Aquila were called to help Paul. James was called to lead the church of Jerusalem. And in more modern days… Fanny Crosby was called to turn theology into hymns – hymns that have been a staple of the church for generations. Clara Barton was called to help the wounded servicemen during the Civil War.

When I was young, I surrendered to the Lordship of Christ. God began to lead me, but it was during a Precept Bible class I realized the call on my life… to help people understand God’s Word. I was called to teach. I never realized how important that would be in the day in which we’re living… when the Bible is being dismantled and Christians are being taught watered-down messages. But even with this call on my life, I wasn’t sure I would be a good teacher. So, I asked the women’s director of my church if I could lead a woman’s Bible study. She agreed. And as I taught, I saw peoples’ lives changed through the study of His Word and I felt a passion in this calling. I knew I had been called and I knew I was in the center of His will. And I’m still teaching to this day.

Theres is nothing like being in the center of God’s will, fulfilling the calling on your life. So, let me ask you… have you discovered what that is for you? Have you discovered why you’re here and for what purpose? What is it that God is calling you to? Our verse in Proverbs says that we should “seek His will in all we do!” That means… simply ask God what it is. And if you need to test it, then begin to do it. You will know if you are in the center of God’s will if people are responding and you’re finding a passion and a joy in it. And let me say this… you are never too old to discover what God’s will is for your life. Trust me, there is GREAT contentment and peace when we strive to live INSIDE God’s will. Let this encourage you today.
