There are so many things that cause us to gripe, complain, or simply just go through the motions: culture, evil, not-so-good circumstances, failures, getting older, daily struggles, among so many other things. But here's the thing... the Bible tells us to be thankful. Did you know that gratefulness has awesome benefits... and not just spiritual. Having a grateful attitude can enhance our physical and mental health. It can help us sleep better. And it can reduce in us things like jealousy, bitterness, unforgiveness, and anger. It also helps to improve our self-confidence, gives us a better perspective, and helps to keep our hope alive.

Don't get sucked into those who say that God wants us to be happy. No where in Scripture do we read that. No. God wants us to live healthy and productive lives... and He wants us to walk in the fullness of joy He has given to us (joy is far different than happiness). I do believe, though, that these things will remain distant from us without a grateful attitude.

I know one thing that can be true for all of us... you and I can turn the negative around with thankfulness. I'm challenging myself today to find something to be grateful for in every situation. In fact, I have a couple things in my life that are deeply concerning. But in those things, I have found gratefulness. So, let me challenge you to be grateful today... even if it's in the littlest things! "Lord, thank you that I can get out of bed today. Thank you that I have legs that work. Thank you for your promises. Thank you that I am never alone. Thank you that I have ears to hear. Thank you that I can keep sharing truth. Thank you that you have given me a voice to proclaim the gospel. Thank you that my loved ones are in your hands. Thank you that you have heard my prayers."

We can climb out of the pit, soar high with eagles' wings, and reclaim our hope simply by being thankful. Hope this encourages you today.
