A year or so ago, I watched a movie based on a true story of a young girl whose dream was to sail around the world by herself. This brave young
girl left her home in Australia and set out to break some records. Shortly before she made it home, she encountered a HUGE storm... in fact, about two or three storms converged together to make one big mammoth storm. She prepared for it, but in reality nothing could really prepare her. Her little sailboat was tossed and battered horribly. At one point, she was sucked under the water and it looked like she would drown. But then, her boat resurfaced and she was safe. Eventually, the storm quieted and she continued her journey all the way home. As she sailed into port, she was met by thousands of people who had come to welcome her home and congratulate her on such an amazing feat.
This story reminds me that we WILL face huge storms in this life... storms that are scary, overpowering, and will threaten our survival. But these words in this verse remind me that NO storm can take me under because the One I serve is mightier than the ocean waves. He is mightier than the strongest hurricane.
Here's the thing though... we MUST keep our eyes on the One who is mightier than the storm surge. If we focus on the storm, we will become anxious, worried, and we can lose our faith. All we will see is the waves, the power of the storm, and the giant wall of water. All we will feel is the battering of our boat. And this can become daunting and exhausting. I'm facing a HUGE storm right now and I'm choosing to focus on the One who is mightier than the storm. I hope this encourages you today if you are in the midst of a huge storm.
