We all know what red flags are, right? These are warnings for us to stop and reconsider our thoughts, our actions. One red flag that we should always pay attention to is when MULTITUDES of people in our life tell us that what we’re about to do or are doing is a really bad idea. They disapprove. When this happens, we should listen because not listening could prove disastrous, and almost always does. Another red flag for believers is when someone says, “I had a thought, an epiphany, a dream” – and what they are telling everyone dismantles what the Bible says. And then they go on to say that they researched their thoughts and they found someone who agrees with them, they read an article that supports their idea, or they found a book where the author is saying exactly what they believe.
An article popped up on social media the other day that threw up a huge red flag. The girl said that she had been taught wrong her whole life. She said that she was always taught to keep praying, keep waiting, keep believing. But she found herself confused and bewildered because she’s done this for years, but nothing has changed. She would wake up in the middle of the night anxious and unable to sleep because her prodigal was still far away from God. So she went on a crusade to find another solution because she couldn’t understand why God wasn’t answering her prayer. And then she found a book… a book that played into her thinking. But when I heard what she was saying… I thought, “She had been taught right. What she heard her whole life was biblically accurate.”
The Bible tells us to KEEP praying, KEEP believing, KEEP trusting, KEEP hoping. So the Bible was right and she was wrong. In fact, the message of the Bible doesn’t change. But so many people try to fit the Bible into their narrative. They believe that since we are living in a modern era, the Bible needs to come into the 21st century as well. They don’t like what it says or they haven’t seen God work, so they go out on their own. This is very DANGEROUS. And there are MANY people doing it. Paul warns the believers in Colossae about people who are trying to capture them with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense. He says that these things come from HUMAN THINKING.
Let me say this… the method may change but the message never does. Make sure you put all your stock in what the Bible says even if it’s hard, and even if you have been waiting for a long time. And beware of those who say, “I had a thought, an epiphany.” And then they proceed to dismantle the Bible. Let’s believe and trust in what this ancient Book says. Let’s not let human thinking take us from the truth of God’s Word.
