Imagine if you were born blind. For your entire life you never saw anything. One day you go to the doctor’s office and he says, “This can be cured.” After surgery, the day comes when the bandages are removed. You open your eyes to a whole new world. The things most people take for granted, you soak up. The flowers, the raindrops, the blue sky, the meadows, and oh the joy of seeing people’s faces. Not a day goes by that you don’t bask in the light. Everything is new.

This happened to Mary Magdalene. She lived in a dark and dreary place until Jesus came and cast seven demons out of her. Oh, the joy that filled her heart. The darkness had been dispelled by the light. So, what did she do? She followed Jesus. She wanted to know more. She wanted to be with Him for the rest of her days. She chose life with the One who transferred her from the darkness to light. Did you know that this has happened to each of us as well? At one time we were in a dark place, unable to see the light of Christ, unable to witness the glory of God, and unable to understand the deep things of God.

Our verse tells us that the moment we came to Jesus, the veil was lifted. What veil? The veil that hid the eyes of the people of the Old Testament. The veil that kept us from seeing the radiance of God and from understanding the deep things of God, like prophetic messages, mysteries hidden away, and the heart of God. The veil covered our eyes so we could not understand the purposes of God… His ultimate purposes all the way to the end. But the moment we put our faith in Jesus, that veil was lifted.

So, what do we do with this light that has opened a whole new world for us? We soak it up. We seek to know more. We ask the Lord to unveil to us the meaning of parables, hard-to-understand passages, and even prophetic messages. We seek to understand more about grace, His covenant, salvation, heaven and hell, the love of God, and future things. We stand before God and gaze into His beauty and glory. At one time, we couldn’t see, but now we can. Let the light of Christ take you on a brand-new journey. What a privilege God has offered us, wouldn’t you agree?
